Grains of Selim (known as Djar in Wolof, Uda by the Igbos of Nigeria and Hwentia or Etso in Ghana, also as Guinea Pepper or African Pepper), are the seeds of a shrubby tree, Xylopia aethiopica grown in Africa. 

The seeds have a unique aromatic and musky flavor and are used as a peppery spice and as a flavouring ingredient in many African soups, stews and spice drinks.

It is the secret ingredient used to flavour Cafe Touba (Senegalese coffee also enjoyed in Guinea-Bissau - ratio of Cafe Touba is approximately 80% coffee and 20% Grains of Selim)
